02 · Foundation

What the studio stands on.

The principles that govern how Syntheus operates and what we will and will not build. The foundation is the source for every downstream brand decision.

02.1

Mission

Help product teams at AI-forward startups and growth-stage companies build sharper products through strategy, design, and engineering — paid in cycles of focused work, not in retainers of busywork.

Vision

Long-form vision statement to be drafted. Should articulate where the practice is going over the next 24–36 months and what success looks like beyond client revenue.
02.3

Values

Ten operating principles. They guide who we work with, what we build, and how we behave when no one is watching.

01

Stay curious

Curiosity over expertise.

Curiosity sets the work apart. Thinking critically about the space and joining the dots between the moving parts is what sharpens product judgement.

02

Focus on the problem, not the solution

Problem before pixels.

To make something good you must understand who you're making it for and why they need it. The problem is the brief; the solution comes second.

03

Be a connoisseur of context

Context is a feature.

Understanding the context around a problem is how we see value others have missed. Most product mistakes are context failures, not skill failures.

04

Be the bridge

Connect why to what to how.

Translate strategy into shape, and shape into engineering — without losing fidelity in either direction. The bridge is where teams break down.

05

Optimize, don't satisfice

What they need, not what they ask.

Deliver what users need efficiently — not what they ask for. The right answer is rarely the literal one.

06

Don't wait till the smoke clears

Decide in fog.

You'll never have perfect information. Waiting until you do means you're already too late. Make the call, ship, watch, adjust.

07

Good artists copy, great artists steal

Hire what already works.

If a tool, pattern, or process already solves the problem, use it. Original work is for places where original work matters.

08

Master the process, then break it

Discipline before improvisation.

Dive deep into systems to find opportunities. Then never settle for the status quo. Mastery earns the right to deviate.

09

Err on the side of clarity

If it isn't written down, it doesn't exist.

Documentation is not overhead — it's the medium that lets work compound across people and time. Write it down.

10

Don't waste effort

Ship value sooner by building less.

Find the right balance between solving the customer problem and shipping fast. The smallest thing that solves the problem wins.

Two and ten matter most. Focus on the problem, not the solution. Don't waste effort. Everything else flows from those.

02.4

Positioning

A studio for AI-forward product teams.

Crisp positioning paragraph to be drafted: who the studio is for, what category we sit in, who we're not for, and what makes us the obvious choice for the right engagement.
02.5

Audience

Who Syntheus serves. Tightly scoped on purpose — the practice runs sharper when the audience is small.

Founders and product leaders at AI-forward startups (seed–Series B) who need a sharp outside operator to define and ship the next phase of product.

Secondary

Heads of product at growth-stage companies (Series C+) who need a fractional partner to upgrade an existing surface or unlock a stalled initiative.

Sectors

  • AI tooling

    Developer tools, agent platforms, infrastructure.

  • B2B SaaS

    Workflow tools, vertical SaaS, prosumer.

  • Fintech

    Banking, lending, accounting, trading surfaces.

  • Health & wellness
